What Is the CAPM Certification and How Can Young Professionals Earn It?

What Is the CAPM Certification and How Can Young Professionals Earn It?

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is one of the most recognized entry-level credentials in the professional world. Issued by the Project Management Institute (PMI), it signals to employers that you understand the language, tools, and methodology of professional project management.

Who Can Earn the CAPM?

PMI's eligibility requirements are simpler than most people expect:

  • A high school diploma or secondary education equivalent
  • 23 hours of project management education
  • That's it. No college degree required. No years of work experience. Just a diploma and documented education hours.

Why It Matters at Ages 17–21

Most career credentials require years of experience before you can even apply. The CAPM is different. It is designed for people at the beginning of their professional journey — which is exactly why it is one of the most valuable credentials a young professional can hold.

A 19-year-old with a CAPM certification on their resume stands out in every job application, college interview, and internship selection process. It communicates something rare: this person thinks like a professional.

How Life Is a Project™ Provides the Required Hours

The Life Is a Project™ program, delivered by Enterprise Academy™, is a 14-session curriculum built on the 7 Project Principles™ — a proprietary framework that maps directly to PMI's project management methodology.

Across 14 sessions covering project initiation, scope management, critical path execution, stakeholder alignment, requirements gathering, team integration, and retrospective practice, participants accumulate 23 documented hours of project management education.

Upon program completion, graduates receive an Enterprise Academy™ Completion Certificate that documents these hours for their CAPM application.

    The Application Process

After completing the program, the CAPM application process takes approximately 30 minutes:

  • Create an account at pmi.org
  • Navigate to Certifications → CAPM → Apply
  • Enter your education hours: Institution: Enterprise Academy™, Hours: 23
  • Upload your Completion Certificate
  • Submit and wait 5–10 business days for PMI review
  • Once approved, schedule your online proctored exam
  • The exam itself is 150 questions, taken online with a remote proctor, and covers predictive (waterfall), agile, and hybrid project management approaches.

    Ready to Start?

The Life Is a Project™ program is open to young professionals ages 17–21 in both online and in-person formats. Program graduates walk away with a completed portfolio, a CAPM-ready certificate, and the professional mindset that most adults spend years trying to develop.
